Awards | Blossoming in Mathematics, Programming, and Computer Fields, Our Students Receive Multiple Honors!

Monday 3 Jul 2023

As this semester draws to a close, students have achieved various accomplishments: some have improved their academic performance, others have received awards for the first time, some have participated in exciting events, and still others have taken the stage for the first time…

With each small effort, the students have achieved remarkable results.

Recently, a batch of good news arrived from afar. Our school students have received multiple awards in the Australian Kangaroo Math Challenge, 2023 Oxford University Programming Thinking Challenge, and 2023 American Computer Science League (ACSL) competition.

Math Kangaroo

Math Kangaroo, initiated by the renowned Australian mathematician Peter O’Halloran in 1980, differs from traditional math assessments that focus on high difficulty and challenges. The Math Kangaroo aims to inspire children’s interest and confidence in learning mathematics through fun and engaging problems that are relatable to daily life. It cultivates students’ mathematical thinking and trains their abilities to read, comprehend, analyze, and solve problems. This activity is suitable for students of all grades and various levels of mathematical proficiency to participate in.

The Oxford University Computing Challenge
The Oxford University Computing Challenge (OUCC) was established in 2017 by the University of Oxford to stimulate the interest of young people in programming, train their programming thinking abilities, and identify outstanding talents. It is a new type of programming thinking challenge. The OUCC is divided into four levels of difficulty: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Elite, corresponding to primary school, middle school, and high school levels respectively. The Oxford University Computing Challenge (OUCC) is on par with the British Informatics Olympiad (BIO) and is one of the four constituent units of the UKCT Challenges.

American Computer Science League

The origin of computer science thinking assessments in the United States can be traced back to Silicon Valley, with a history of over 40 years. It is one of the longstanding computer programming activities for elementary and middle school students in the United States. This project has obtained official certification and recommendation from the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA). Additionally, it has garnered support from renowned high-tech and educational companies such as Google, Adobe, No Starch Press, O’Reilly Media, Pearson, Pragmatic Bookshelf, and Wolfram. Each year, numerous students from the United States, Canada, Europe, Africa, and Asia enthusiastically participate in this project.
