Chinese New Year’s Greetings

Friday 24 Jan 2020

Dear Parents,

The end of a semester, and the end of the year, is a time to reflect and also to look forward. We are still a new school but in many ways it does not feel that way, which is a tribute to the teaching staff, support staff, and pupils who have worked together to build the School community.

There have been many highlights: the House Music and House Cross Country which saw all pupils from Grade 1 to Grade 11 competing for their house; the talent show; art display; musical performances out of school; some excellent sports results; individuals and teams gaining academic success beyond school. And the semester has finished with a very busy week featuring a drama performance, innovation week and a Chinese cultural showcase. The newsletters give more detail and illustrate these achievements. The academic work, of course, remains central but these activities build on, support and complement achievement in the classroom.

I referred above to the school community and crucial to this has been the work of all teaching staff in the pastoral programme but also the support offered to each other by the pupils and the pride which they have shown in representing the School.

So much has been achieved but the key now is to build on that achievement. Two year groups will be working towards important external examinations and preparation for these will be crucial both in the vacation and in the build up next semester. Similarly academic ambition, high expectations and really hard work will be expected of all our children in the classroom. Our excellent staff, both academic and support, will be working hard to support the pupils in their efforts, as they have all semester. I know that you will join with me in thanking them for their efforts.

We are very grateful for parents’ support throughout, wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year and look forward to welcoming the children back to school in February.

Kindest regards,

Bruce Thompson
