How can we ensure fairness in the distribution of resources and income?

How can we address the myriad challenges  brought by rapid urbanization?

……

Last weekend, nearly 200 student delegates from 11 international schools across China gathered in Hangzhou for the 18th West Lake Model United Nations (WLMUN) conference, where they engaged in discussions on global issues.

A delegation of 10 students from our school, spanning grades 8 to 12, participated in the event. Notably, Isabella Wang, an 8th-grade student from KCIS, received the Outstanding Delegate Award in the United Nations Economic and Social Council, representing Bangladesh.

MUN is a popular activity where students role-play as United Nations delegates, simulating UN committees to learn about diplomacy, international relations, current global issues, and the workings of the United Nations.

This year’s theme, “One Step Back, Two Steps Forward,” focused on how to make progress in the face of adversity.

Students closely followed the theme by drafting opening speeches and proposals, submitting resolutions to various committees, lobbying for support, debating issues, and proposing amendments, all in line with their assigned country’s position on the topic.

Before participating in the event, the 10 students underwent intensive training and preparation under the guidance of Ms. Daza. Before the competition, they underwent focused training on the rules, procedures, and diplomatic language of Model United Nations. This training helped them develop essential skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, and problem-solving, while learning how to communicate and listen to differing opinions—enhancing both their knowledge and skills.

Through participation in MUN, students can integrate knowledge from various disciplines, engage deeply with specific issues, and think critically about international affairs from multiple perspectives. This experience helps them develop a global outlook, intercultural communication skills, and increases their competitiveness in university applications. More importantly, it nurtures a sense of responsibility and global citizenship, preparing them to become resilient global citizens.

In the future, we will continue to offer students opportunities to participate in a variety of activities, providing abundant resources to encourage them to challenge themselves, expand their international perspectives, enhance their overall abilities, and grow into future leaders who embody national pride, a global outlook, and the competencies required for a successful global career.
